Free Mulch provided from the city

Twice a year when you cut down and remove old branches and shrubbery from your place and put it out on the curb to be be picked up by the city, have you ever wondered where it ends up at? The city of San Antonio, takes the brush from everyone's curbside and takes it to two locations in San Antonio. These two locations also are the main drop off point for truckload or trailer loads of brush throughout the year from tree trimming services to landscaping services. The good news is, they don't just mix this with the city dump or bury it alongside other waste. They processes all of the woody material through large scale wood chippers to make huge piles (and I do mean huge) of mulch that is accessible to anyone willing and able to go and get it. The only draw back to some of this mulch is sometimes contains trash (from people turning in trashy brush), and its also known to carry a lot of seeds (most common seeds found are nut sedge grass, or small palms). The fine mulch or double cut mulch usually tend to have less of each of these. Either case, adding mulch to your landscape and garden dramatically increases the water holding capacity of the soil and help protect intensive heat from getting to the soil, which are both major issues for the south. Mulching can also reduce unfavorable grasses or weeds if applied properly and mulch also increases soil structure, nutrient activity, and healthy soil organisms including beneficial fungi. So here are the details on how to get the free mulch.

The two locations:

Things you'll need to bring:
